Juan Guillermo is one of Colombia’s most versatile drummers, which has allowed him to play with artists like: Richie Ray, JBalvin, Amaury Gutiérrez, ChocQuibTown, Juan Carlos Coronel, Edy Martínez, Totó La Momposina, Fanny Lu, Andrés Cepeda, Samuel Torres, Dave Valentin, Edmar Castañeda, Antonio Arnedo, Petrona Martínez, Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Trópico Big Band, Yusa, among others.
He has been nominated twice for a Latin Grammy Award and once for a Grammy Award. He has also won one Shock award.
As a session drummer he’s participated in recordings for: Ricky Martin, Fonseca, Lucas Arnau, Pasabordo, Piso21, Maite Hontelé, Maluma, FactorXF Colombia, Miranda, and other salsa, pop, rock, jazz, vallenato, Colombian music, and reggae artists, as well as other musical genres.
He’s been a member of important music groups from Medellin including: Puerto Candelaria, La República and Ballet Folclórico de Antioquia.
He has performed on approximately 50 international tours around Asia, Europe and America.
He has his own studio, focused on recording drums and percussion
As a teacher, he has taught Colombian and Latin Percussion clinics at universities, academies and percussion festivals
He started studying music at the age of 11, supported by his family, who encouraged him to study professionally. He lived for three years in Cuba, studying at the Instituto Superior de Arte (Higher Arts Institute) and the Escuela Nacional de Arte (National Arts School). After three years on the island, he returned to Colombia with the goal of studying his own country’s rhythms.
